DIGITAL LEARNING KITS SUPPLIED

GOAL

Each digital learning kit costs USD$7500.  The goal is to implement a full DLC with training into 17 schools in the conservation areas that Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps operate in.

WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED SO FAR:

The Digital Smart Learning Project was implemented in partnership with WiLearn4Life, funded by the PD Foundation to empower the community through digital & technological skills.

The project launched on 22 March 2021 and local teachers and community members from the Iloirero and Lenkisem areas came together along with the staff of Gamewatchers Safaris  and Managing Director, Dr Mohanjeet Brar, and the CEO of WiLearn 4 Life, Mr. Roland Diethelm. The project has since been extended to 3 schools around Selenkay Conservancy and 3 schools around Ol Kinyei Conservancy, with a goal to move to 17 schools.

It’s seen as an important measure to strengthen the ties between sustainable eco-tourism,
conservation of the habitat, and the local community who highly value a modern education for their children. The community youth, Kenya’s future leaders and protectors of a delicate ecosystem shall get the best opportunities to understand the cause and effects of people and wildlife living side by side.  Every new school once assessed and approved starts with a 4-day workshop for the teachers and then along with the kids. We live in a digital world and if the community youth can effectively ‘speak this language’ and operate in this space it offers the chance to get better jobs and create new opportunities.

The unique mobile learning platforms designed by WiLearn works well even for schools not yet connected to the national power grid or even without the internet.

The system comes with a foldable solar panel that can be plugged into the case which is already fitted with a charging system for the tablets.  Each unit also has a server that creates a local WIFI enabling digital learning for the class, a projector, and headsets for the kids’ tablets.

WiLearn was able to get approval for the MsingiPACK Academy on the Gamewatchers offline server and the first in Kenya to have the groundbreaking curriculum aligned and Government approved lessons from Grades 1 to 4 and Classes 6 to 8 available on the Gamewatchers server.

It has also been possible to deploy Windows tablets in the eLearning library with success. Many of these schools had government tablets some up to 40 of them which were never used for a number of reasons, including some schools not being able to charge them, lack of relevant digital content, etc. Now with access to the WiFi library, all of those tablets can be revived to engage more school children in digital learning practices with MsingiPACK Academy and many more education modules.
